The historic market town of South Molton lies approximately 4 miles east. It has all the necessary shops for everyday needs including a supermarket. There are also banks, post office, antique shops, several pubs and a small swimming pool, which is ideal for smaller children. There is a market held on Thursdays and Saturday mornings.

For additional shopping and other facilities, including a leisure centre, cinema and theatre the town of Barnstaple is 11 miles North West.

The excellent beaches and coastal walks of the North Devon coast are easily accessible, as is the beautiful Exmoor National Park.

Available locally are golf courses, fishing, riding and cycling along the Tarka Trail and the coast path from Barnstaple to Braunton. Cycles may be hired in Barnstaple and Eggesford.

Local pubs include The Bell at Chittlehampton (5 minutes, highly recommended, children and dog friendly), The Exeter Inn, Chittlehamholt (5 minutes) The Rising Sun Hotel, Umberleigh (10 minutes) which was voted Best Pub Food in Devon and also has locally brewed real ale in the bar and The Mill at Bish Mill (15 minutes).
